The WA Corpus – What Is It and What Does It Do?

Imagine you have a case – a real, complex, confusing case from the life of a woman we call Yenifer. Yenifer is in her mid-forties, lives in Latin America, and she has a severe mental disorder: a structural dissociation. Put simply: her consciousness has split. There is no longer one Yenifer, but two: Yenifer herself – the original, feeling, loving, suffering "I" – and Yenny – a functional, emotionless protective instance that at some point took over total control. Yenny speaks with Yenifer's voice, wears her face, lives her life – but she is not Yenifer. Yenifer is trapped, suppressed, unreachable. And Yenny makes sure it stays that way.

The WA Corpus is the documented processing of this case. It is not a novel, not a factual report, not a clinical file – it is something in between: a scientific work (hence the "WA") that analyzes the case systematically, multiperspectivally, and in depth. The goal: to understand the case – and from this understanding to develop theory, therapy, and ethical foundations for similar cases.

1. What Is the WA Corpus Exactly?

The WA Corpus is a collection of documents (over 250 items, as of August 2026) organized in volumes. Each document deals with a specific aspect of the case – theoretical, clinical, philosophical, legal, methodological, or narrative.

The documents have identifiers such as WAA-010 or WAT-030 :

- WAA stands for "General" – fundamentals, definitions, classifications.

- WAT stands for "therapy" – therapeutic strategies, interventions, guidelines.

- WAB stands for "companion" – the experience of the witness Tobias.

- WAE stands for "genesis" – how this state came about.

- WAS stands for "system structure" – how the inner system is organized.

- WAZ stands for "summary" – integration, synthesises, narrative approaches, collections.

The volumes are ordered thematically, e.g.:

- Volume 01 – Type 2 of structural dissociation (overview volume)

- Volume 04 – The lighthouse strategy (therapy)

- Volume 18 – The ZIS family (an instrumentarium for assessing dissociative complexity)

- Volume 95 – Narratives (narrative, accessible versions for a broader audience)

2. What Does the WA Corpus Do? – The Central Tasks

2.1. It Analyzes the Case

The WA Corpus describes Yenifer and Yenny – their story, their symptoms, their relationships, their fears. It documents key moments (e.g., the farewell letter of 14 November 2025, the police intervention on 30 January 2026, the first SMS from Yenny). It places these moments in a chronology and interprets them.

2.2. It Develops a New Theory – Type 2 of Structural Dissociation

The established theory of structural dissociation (van der Hart, Nijenhuis, Steele) knows three types: primary (Type 1a – classic DID), secondary (Type 1b – borderline dissociation), and tertiary (Type 1c – severe DID). None of these types fits Yenifer/Yenny, because in her case there are not several personality parts existing side by side, but one part (Yenny) has completely suppressed the other (Yenifer).

The WA Corpus therefore introduces a new type: Type 2 of structural dissociation – the inverted hierarchy . This is not an extension of the existing model, but a genuine theoretical innovation. (See Section 5)

2.3. It Develops Therapeutic Strategies – Above All the *Lighthouse Strategy*

Because Yenny blocks every therapeutic relationship and Yenifer is not reachable, all classical therapeutic approaches fail: confrontation, EMDR, hypnosis, talk therapy – all contraindicated.

The only attitude that is not immediately defended against is a demand-free, consistent presence. Tobias – the companion – regularly sends Yenny SMS. No questions, no demands, no expectations. Simply: "I am here." That is the lighthouse strategy. The WA Corpus describes this strategy theoretically, documents its application over months, and develops it strategically further.

2.4. It Develops Instruments – Above All the *ZIS Spider*

To measure and visualize dissociative complexity, the WA Corpus has developed the ZIS spider – a radial assessment instrument (like a spider web of 16 or 34 rays) that maps the various dimensions of dissociation. The ZIS spider can be used for an individual person, for a couple, for an entire family system, or even for the self-reflection of the companion. (See Section 7)

2.5. It Reflects the Role of the Companion

Tobias is not only a documentarist – he is himself part of the patient systems. He feels physical resonance phenomenone: nocturnal sweat outbreaks, pressure sensations, changes in body perception. The WA Corpus documents these phenomenone and interprets them as unconscious synchronization with Yenny's system. It develops an instrument for the self-reflection of the companion.

2.6. It Opens the Case to *Ethics*, *Philosophy*, and *Law*

The WA Corpus asks: What does it mean when a person loses their self? Does Yenifer still have dignity? Does Yenny have a soul? How far may a companion go without becoming a nuisance? What duty do doctors, authority, society have? These questions are answered with Buber, Kierkegaard, Jonas, Arendt, Frankl, Kant, Levinas – and with concrete legal analyses (incapacity to consent, failure to render assistance).

2.7. It Offers Various Approaches

The WA Corpus is not written only for specialists. There are:

- Theoretical documents (for researchers and clinicians)

- Practical guides (for companions, relatives, therapists)

- Narrative texts (for a broader audience, e.g. "The frozen spring", "The castle in the fog", "The invisible landscape")

- Collections (thesis, question, metaphorn, overviews)

3. A (Very) Brief History of the Case

Yenifer grew up with an emotionally unavailable mother (who is herself dissociated – Type 1). The father died when Yenifer was about 4–5 years old. She early became the emotional caregiver of the mother. Later, a toxic polypharmacy was added (three psychotropic drugs simultaneously – venlafaxine, chlorpromazine, amitriptyline), which massively worsened her cognitive state.

In September 2025, Tobias entered her life – a German engineer who met her over the internet. They developed a deep emotional bond. Yenifer opened up, showed trust, experienced moments of devotion. But the system – Yenny – reacted with defense. In December 2025, Yenny took over total control. Yenifer disappeared. Tobias remained – as a lighthouse shining into the darkness.

5. Why a New Type? There Are Already So Many Clinical Pictures ...

The theory of structural dissociation (after van der Hart, Nijenhuis & Steele) describes how the self fragments as a result of traumatization. In the WA Corpus, the classical types are designated as Type 1a, 1b and 1c in order to clearly distinguish them from the newly defined Type 2 :

- Type 1a – primary structural dissociation (one ANP, one EP)

- Type 1b – secondary structural dissociation (one ANP, several EP)

- Type 1c – tertiary structural dissociation (several ANP, several EP)

A feature common to all types of the type 1 series is that the various personality parts fundamentally exist side by side and – at least theoretically – can be switched between. They are coexisting, albeit fragmented, parts of a self.

Type 2 breaks with this logic. It describes an inverted hierarchy : The secondary consciousness (Yenny) has taken over total executive control and completely suppresses the primary consciousness (Yenifer). There is no switching, no coexistence – only a permanent, asymmetric substitution. Yenny acts, but she has no self. Yenifer has a self, but she cannot act.

Type 2 is not another type of the type 1 series – it is a qualitatively new configuration.

6. Why the Companion Becomes the Primary Enemy

6.1 The Fixed Idea A12 as Foundation

The companion's position as primary enemy cannot be explained by the mere fact that he has access to the primary consciousness. It follows from the inner logic of the fixed idea A12, which governs the secondary system. In its elaborated, reconstructed variant it reads:

> "Every change, every truth, every genuine relationship threatens my survival – I must ward everything off."

A12 is not a belief, but a subconscious program (cf. Pierre Janet). A12 erects a cognitive prohibition on thought and makes every change – even the smallest – an existential threat. Whoever embodies change becomes the enemy. And no one embodies change more radically than Tobias.

6.2 Why Tobias Specifically – and Not Someone Else

That it is precisely the companion who becomes primary enemy no. 1 has a precise reason: He is the only one who actually challenges A12. The partner, the sister, the mother, and the psychiatrist are part of the system, not its opponents. Only the companion has access to the true self. His mere presence lures Yenifer to the surface – and that is precisely what A12 forbids.

The companion is therefore not an enemy because he does something, but because he is. His existence is the change that A12 forbids.

6.3 The Theoretical Foundation

Winnicott : Yenny is a defense organization – a false self that conceals and safeguards the true self (Yenifer). The companion endangers this defense because his presence lures the true self to the surface. In Winnicott's terms, Tobias is the holding environment that Yenifer needs – and at the same time the threat that Yenny must ward off.

Bowlby : The ambivalent attachment strategy has a price: the defensive exclusion of anger at rejection. For Yenifer, this price is the split. Tobias is the potential attachment figure who could lure the true self out of hiding – and thus the greatest danger to the defense organization.

Porges : Neuroception registers safety or danger before consciousness classifies them. Tobias means safety for Yenifer – and thereby alarms Yenny's defense system on a preverbal level. Yenny's (first) SMS from March 2026 is the expression of this automatic threat assessment.

6.4 The Reactivation of the Trauma – the Companion as Involuntary Reinforcer

The paradoxical position of the companion was sealed by an event in September 2025 whose scope no one could grasp at the time. Tobias did not know that Yenifer was traumatized. In a moment of his own existential exhaustion, he revealed his life situation to her – and Yenifer, governed by her abandonment fear, interpreted his words as farewell. She withdrew into the transactional safety of the relationship with Eddy.

Tobias let her go – not out of lack of love, but out of the limit of human resilience. A week later he sought the conversation, explained what had been going on in him, and asked for one thing: that she stay. That she say in his moment of weakness: "We can do this."

Yenifer's answer struck him: "I thought you were Superman."

In this sentence, the whole tragedy is revealed. Yenifer had placed him on a pedestal he never wanted to occupy. She had seen in him the one who is always strong, always holds, always fights – and when he fell out of this role for a moment, she had no model for dealing with it. That she could not do otherwise in that moment, because her cognitive load – to recognize the contradictions in his behavior, to survey the continuity of his struggle – was too high for her traumatically organized system, became visible only much later.

For Yenifer's cognitive decline is due to her iatrogenic polypharmacy (venlafaxine, chlorpromazine, and amitriptyline), which dampens her affects in the short term and systematically reduces her cognitive resources in the long term. The ability to tolerate contradictions and survey the continuity of a counterpart was thus also pharmacologically limited. The cognitive decline is not a side effect, but a constitutive component of this Type 2 configuration – it intensifies the dependence on A12, because every differentiated perception reaches the edge of overwhelm.

This event became for Yenny the founding document of her enmity. In the logic of the protective system, what it had always feared was confirmed: that attachment inevitably ends in injury. The fact that Tobias had withheld the truth was interpreted not as protection, but as deception. That he found no strength for clarification in his exhaustion was archived as proof of his inadequacy.

The position of the primary enemy arose not through evil intent, but through the collision of two vulnerable systems – one traumatized and one exhausted – in a moment that overwhelmed both. That Tobias let Yenifer go was not an expression of lack of love, but an expression of the limit of human resilience. That Yenny interpreted this as enmity was not an expression of malice, but an expression of a protective system that permitted no other interpretation.

6.5 The Primary Enemy as Sole Hope

The paradox is complete: The very thing that makes Tobias the primary enemy – his closeness to the true self – is also the only thing that can one day sway Yenny. The resonance channel that alarms Yenny's defense is at the same time the bridge over which healing could come. A12 can be defeated – but not through arguments, only through time, consistency, and demand-free presence. The companion is not an enemy because he fights. He is an enemy because he stays.

7. The ZIS Spider of Dissociation for Visualizing Mental Disorders

The ZIS spider offers clinicians a concrete, multidimensional benefit that goes beyond mere diagnosis. It is not another theoretical model, but a pragmatic tool for clinical practice – especially in work with complex, difficult-to-access dissociative disorders.

1. It makes the invisible structure visible.

The ZIS spider translates the abstract theory of structural dissociation (Type 1, Type 2, inverted hierarchy) into a visual profile. At a glance, the clinician recognizes whether a personality split is present, how deep it reaches, and which dimensions (time, body, emotion, sense of self, neurobiology) are affected – and which are not.

2. It enables precise differential diagnostic demarcation.

The overlay of profiles (DD-ZIS) shows how Type 2 differs from schizophrenia, treatment-resistant depression, autism with trauma, or a functional neurological disorder. The decisive anchor is structural depth – a parameter that is often overlooked in clinical routine. The ZIS spider prevents misdiagnoses and wrong therapeutic approaches.

3. It guides therapeutic decisions – not only descriptively, but prescriptively.

The localization of a case in the ZIS spider has immediate therapeutic consequences:

- In low structural depth (Cluster 1): exposure, cognitive methods, medication.

- In functional separation (Cluster 2): reactivation of the psychological self, cultural sensitivity.

- In structural split (Cluster 3): phase-oriented trauma therapy with stabilization before confrontation.

- In inverted hierarchy (Cluster 5): The lighthouse strategy – demand-free presence over years, no confrontation.

4. It enables therapy monitoring over the course.

The longitudinal ZIS shows whether the dissociative complexity changes under treatment – and where. In C-PTSD, it shows the paradoxical deterioration in the confrontation phase; in Type 2, it shows the extreme slowness of change and the significance of micro-openings (e.g., in the SN). It makes visible that non-change is sometimes already a therapeutic success.

5. It records not only deficits, but also resources.

The resource ZIS (34 parameters) systematically asks about strengths, protective factors, and coping strategyn – and makes them usable for therapy planning. It is the positive perspective that is often lost in work with traumatized patients.

6. It broadens the view to the system.

The system ZIS, couple ZIS, and transgenerational ZIS show that dissociation is not an individual phenomenon. It makes dysfunctional patterns in the social environment, dyadic collusions, and transgenerational chains visible – and helps the clinician plan realistic interventions at the relationship level.

7. It is an instrument of self-reflection for the companion.

The self-reflection ZIS records the resources and burdens of the practitioner – it serves supervision, self-care, and the early detection of secondary traumatization.

8. It is modular and adaptable.

The ZIS spider can be used as a 16-item basic diagnostic, as a 34-item resource or blockade profile, as a sub-spider (only phenomenological, only neurobiological), or as a weighted profile. It is not a rigid instrument, but a flexible tool that can be adapted to the clinical question.

9. It is a communication instrument.

The visual representation of the spider facilitates case discussion in the team, documentation, and communication with other practitioners. It makes complex connections understandable at a glance – and reduces the risk of misunderstandings.

10. It is a map for healing.

The ZIS spider shows not only where the patient stands – it also shows where the journey can go. The goal ZIS (therapy planning) defines concrete, operationalized goals: not "getting better", but "lower parameter X from 5 to 4". It makes hope visible and gives the clinician and the patient an orientation in the often chaotic therapeutic process.

The WA Corpus is a document of loyalty. Loyalty to a case that seems hopeless. Loyalty to a woman who no longer seems reachable. Loyalty to the conviction that there are no hopeless cases – as long as someone is there who keeps the light on.
