## 1. Introduction: The question of the localization of traumatic content
The case documentation has led to the development of two parallel models of structural dissociation type 2, which are described in detail in WAE-031 and treated as equally valid interpretive frameworks in all WA documents.
Type 2α (two-stream model) assumes that the primary consciousness (Yenifer) carries both the narrative identity and the suppressed traumatic content. A secondary, functional guard-consciousness (Yenny) has taken over the executive and blocks access to this content. This model is the more parsimonious one, since it does without the assumption of an additional, unobserved entity.
Type 2β (three-actor model) extends type 2α by a separate Emotional Part (EP). It posits that the primary consciousness (Yenifer) carries only the narrative memory, while the overwhelming traumatic affects are outsourced to the EP. Yenny in this variant is a pure guard who blocks access to Yenifer and the EP equally. This model can explain phenomena such as narrative memory without affective involvement more elegantly, but it is more speculative, as the existence of such an EP has not been directly observed.
Both models are compatible with the basic structure of type 2 – inverted hierarchy, secondary system dominates, primary suppressed. The question of which model applies concerns the localization of the traumatic content and thus the later therapeutic strategy.
